Drama Genre Marketing Plan
A drama film is a genre that depends mostly on in-depth development of realistic characters dealing with emotional themes. Dramatic themes such as alcoholism, drug addiction, infidelity, moral dilemmas, etc. this specific genre has a very wide range of movie sub-genre, some including period-drama, romance, etc. because of the broadness of sub-genres it will therefore attract a large variety of movie-goers. The genre usually appeals to both the young, mature and the elderly of both genders. The drama genre appeals to emotions, and thus more often made to appeal to a female audience. The target audience would then, in general be between the ages 16-60 (and maybe above) and female.
Publicity, marketing, advertising: The trailers should show the core plot of the film, but not to spoil the movie. There should also be multiple trails, showing different varieties of the movie, to attract a range of people. The same goes for the posters. These however should be shown on and off-line, to make it accessible for everyone in every circumstance, wherever they are. Also internet marketing, have a website for the movie set up, ready for on demand information and advertising.
Have the actors go on talk/ chat shows, to get influencers talk/ advertise the movie. Just by having big stars in the movie is a great deal of advertisement, as everyone knows whatever they do, and whatever movie they are working on. Anyone who likes them would go to see a movie with them in it anyway.
To have the movie premiered world-wide and open at film festivals, the public will be influenced by the cast and director, as they are big events with lots of interviews, and will give more information about the movie. Persuading movie-goers to see the movie.
Getting film critiques and chat show hosts to see the movies before it releases to have more opinions on it, more for them to talk about. Also getting radio hosts to see it the movie before it comes out, would help to have a variety of influencers on a variety of platforms. Therefore all types of people will hear about the movie.
The movie will also get more marketing if it is based off of a book/ novel. Or have a book adaptation (novelization) of the film. For example Jim Henson’s ‘Labyrinth’ (1986) has been adapted into a book by author and playwright A.C.H. Smith.
