Aesthetis/Composistion

In class, we worked in groups to shoot imagery of a ceertain genre of photography selected for us, and then put them together in a powerpoint.

  • Rule of thirds/Balance: Fitting your image into a certain space to achieve balance. To make your image seem humble and soft, place your main focus off-centre. However, if shooting Fashion photography, you want to place the model in the centre and maybe even staring straight into the camera, this makes it look and feel more confident.

  • Symmetry, Patterns and Leading Lines: these are used because they are visually pleasing, and draw attention to theses areas as the are interesting to look at. Lines give our eyes something to follow, as you examine the patterns and symmetry.

  • Viewpoint/Camera Angle: These make the image more interestingas you can use a variety of different angles rather than from just sraight on all the time. You can move around the subject to find the perfect view.

  • Background: Concentrate on whats in the background as well as whats in the foreground as it can take away the attension and ruin the image if it is too busy.

  • Depth/Depth of Field: To have just one thing in focus, and everything infront of and behind out of focus.

  • Framing and Cropping: Framing is what you see in the viewfinder  and Cropping is what you take away from the image to get what you want.
