The aim of this project is to document ‘the journey’, which does not have to be a physical journey, but could be an emotional journey, or even to just represent things moving, and we must represent this through 4-6 photograph using a variety of photographic techniques.
My idea for the following project is a journey on a train. Where it is all taken completely from on the train of either the atmosphere on the train or the view from the windows whilst traveling or when at a station, which I could also take photographs from the open doors. This could be a physical journey, as I would be traveling somewhere, but it could also represent an emotional journey, with the people on the train or the way the photograph has been set up as well as the editing afterwards. Depending on the day and time I choose will also change the mood of the image, because of the lighting, the amount of people and the way they look/atmosphere they give off. My idea was influenced by some photography of Sophie Calle, Tom Hunter and Gregory Crewdson, as they can be quite solemn, yet intriguing. To do this I will get trains into London, as the closer you get the surroundings start to changing rapidly so each picture will be different.
Some of my initial ideas included; the theme of adventure, where I would ‘adventure’ somewhere and take pictures of my journey there. Life, a road trip, love, family, loneliness and emotions.
I hope to achieve a sequence of pictures, that have the same theme, but each picture is different and I will achieve this by using the same techniques but taken in different areas, and also trying to keep the editing process similar.
